Fairfield Golden Agers Celebrate Veterans Day

FAIRFIELD, NJ -- The Fairfield Golden Agers held their November meeting on Veterans Day, November 11 at the Fairfield Recreation Complex. Veterans, both living and deceased, were remembered on this historic day. All 70 members attending received a poppy, along with the Poem “In Flanders Fields”.

The room was decorated with American flags and patriotic musical tributes were played throughout the meeting. President Mary Ann Durantino welcomed all to the meeting and Vice-President Pat Palumbo introduced Brian Gallagher, commander of the Fairfield Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7925, who also gave greetings.

Members of the Golden Agers who served in the armed forces were invited to come forward as their branch of service was recognized in the musical tribute. Each of the eight Veterans were presented with a red carnation boutonniere and asked to identify their branch and years of service, along with their rank, and what serving in the military meant to them. At the conclusion of their presentation, the Veterans received a standing applause by all those present.

Members of the Fairfield Golden Agers who had a spouse or family member who served in the military, were then asked to stand and be recognized by all. Refreshments were served, including a sheet cake decorated for Veterans, and all members had an opportunity to socialize and give thanks to those who served our country.
