1. Read the following sentences and, in your notebook, choose the correct options
to complete the statements about the Simple Past of the verb to be.
Who was Marie Curie?
When was she born?
Marie Curie was not from Paris.
Marie Curie and her husband, Pierre Curie, were scientists.
a. As formas do verbo to be no Simple Past são was e were. Usamos was / were
para I, he, she, it e usamos was / were para we, you, they.
b. Em frases negativas com o verbo to be no passado, usamos no / not após
was/were, como na terceira frase-exemplo.
c. Em frases interrogativas com o verbo to be no passado, as formas verbais was ou
were vêm antes / depois do sujeito. Na primeira e na segunda frases-exemplo,
os sujeitos são Marie Curie e she, respectivamente.
